We have THREE open paid PACE positions. One for summer 2024, and TWO for fall/spring semesters!!

We have THREE PAID INTERNSHIPS for Ohio University undergraduates!!! These positions are focused on the ecology and evolution of reptiles and amphibians. However, expertise in these organisms is not required. See the OU webpage for PACE application information: www.ohio.edu/financial-aid/types/employment/pace

  • View and begin applying to these position now.

  • The deadline to apply is April 14.

  • Interviews will occur from April 18 - 25.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:

Climate Change Effects on Amphibians: Fall 2024-Spring 2025. The intern will assist with a primarily field-based project designed to assess the effects of ice cover on vernal ponds in southeastern Ohio in the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters. The intern will assist in collecting data and processing water samples from a series of vernal ponds in Zaleski State Forest and other public forests. Duties will include deploying, maintaining, and analyzing data from an array of remote-triggered cameras, water samples, as well as springtime surveys of vernal ponds for amphibian populations. The intern will also assist with a complimentary experiment designed to assess the effects of reduced ice cover on vernal pond ecosystems. Interns will be based in Athens. Ecology and Evolution of Reptiles (1): Fall 2024-Spring 2025. The summer intern will learn how to extract genomic DNA from tissue samples, how to quantify extracted DNA, how to assess the quality of the genomic DNA extracted, and how to prepare these samples for reduced coverage (ddRAD) and whole-genome sequencing. Students will also learn how to collect morphological data from X-Ray images of lizard specimens, manage the processing of specimens, and integrate and summarize the resulting datasets. Finally, in addition to managing the tissue library and associated preserved specimens, students will have the opportunity to be involved in local fieldwork that includes measuring and processing of live lizards and other herpetofauna. Interns will be based in Athens. Pace position code: 000003127

Ecology and Evolution of Reptiles (2): Summer 2024.
